History and Operation of the FMPL Bookstore – It was always a dream of the Friends of Mead Public Library to one day run a bookstore within the library. We opened in June of 2004 and since then we have seen a steady increase in "browsers" as well as sales. Since our opening we have taken in more than $20,000. Total sales in 2007 were $7,792.

All of this money does not go directly into the Friends of Mead treasury. Due to certain aspects of the library’s operation, there is a slight twist. Whenever a member of the Friends is in the Bookstore and someone purchases an item, the Friends keep the money. When an item is purchased at the Library’s Customer Service Desk, the money goes into the Library’s account. BUT, either way, the library benefits.

Location and Hours of Bookstore - The Bookstore is located at the far south end of the First Floor – right in front of the fireplace and quilt. There is a large banner hanging from the ceiling telling you where the Bookstore is. The Bookstore is open for sales every single hour that the Library is open.

4th Saturday Special Sales - On the 4th Saturday of the month, the Friends have a special sale within the area of the Bookstore. There are lower prices on the entire inventory. Also special books are brought up on carts for sale only on that day. During the hours of the sale (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) the Bookstore is staffed by Friend’s volunteers.

Donations - The Friends of Mead Public Library gratefully accept any donations of "gently used books," magazines, videos, tapes, CD’s, or DVD’s. The materials can be dropped off at the Customer Service Desk. Certain items with local history significance are especially welcome.

Bookstore Volunteer Opportunities – Any member of the Friends may volunteer to help out with the Bookstore. If you are not already a member, it very easy to join the Friends of Mead Public Library. We need Friends to maintain the inventory of the Bookstore, to work at the 4th Saturday Sales, to work at "Special" Book Sales that are held 2/3 times a year in the Rocca Meeting Room, and to help in the basement sorting area.
