Tax Forms and Resources

Each year during tax season, as soon as they are delivered to Mead Public, we offer a supply of widely used state and federal income tax forms and instructions to the public. They are available free, while supplies last, in the lobby of the library and are put out as they are received from the government agencies.
For 2012, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue will discontinue its annual mailing of individual income tax Form 1, 1A and WI-Z, 1NPR, and Schedule H and H-EZ booklets, with limited exceptions. In addition, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue has asked libraries to order fewer paper forms to avoid waste (last year, for every 10 forms available at a library, only 1 was filed). The Department of Revenue encourages taxpayers to use the free Wisconsin E-file service, or to print out forms online. Links for 2011 forms will be posted as they are available. Paper copies of federal tax forms also might be exhausted earlier than in prior years since the IRS has discontinued mailing individual tax packages to taxpayers.
Only personal (not business) forms will be available for pickup. Multi-part forms are not available. Less commonly used forms are available for photocopying on the second floor of the library. All forms are available on the Internet.
After the tax season ends, at the end of April, the library offers only limited forms at the second floor Reference Desk, and these may be photocopied. Reference staff members can assist in finding forms online as well. Printing charges do apply.
Library staff members may not provide any tax advice, including advice on what forms you may need to use. However, Mead Library has available numerous tax guides for reference use or checkout. Also, Lakeland College will provide free tax preparation and electronic filing for low income tax filers.
IRS has launched IRS2Go, a smartphone application that lets you interact with the IRS using your mobile device.
You can check the status of your federal income tax refund using IRS2Go. Simply enter your Social Security number, which will be masked and encrypted for security purposes, then select your filing status and enter the amount of your anticipated refund from your 2011 tax return. If you e-file your return, you can check your refund status within a few days. If you file a paper tax return, you will need to wait three to four weeks to check your refund status because it takes longer to process a paper return. If you have an Apple iPhone or iTouch, you can download the free IRS2Go app by visiting the iTunes app store. If you have an Android device, you can visit the Android Marketplace to download the free IRS2Go app.
