Next Film Based on Weiner Book
The Friends of Mead Public Library will host a free film series for adults this winter and spring in the library's Rocca Meeting Room. The next film, on Tuesday, Feb. 28, is "In Her Shoes," with Toni Collette, Shirley MacLaine, and Cameron Diaz, rated PG-13 (130 minutes). Based on the Jennifer Weiner book, the story involves straight-laced Rose, who breaks off relations with her party girl sister, Maggie, over an indiscretion involving Rose's boyfriend. The chilly atmosphere is broken with the arrival of Ella, the grandmother neither sister knew existed. Parking meters with a five-hour (or longer) limit are available along both sides of 9th Street and also in the parking lot adjacent to the library, nearest to 9th Street.

Want to Try a Kindle?
Mead Library is offering EasiCat card-holders a chance to get to know the Kindle, a wireless reading device from Amazon. Five Kindles have been purchased with funds from the William R. Werk Estate, designated for materials that assist the visually impaired. Kindles give users the ability to display type in various sizes and 16 shades of gray and many books offer a text-to-speech feature that “reads” a book out loud. Any adult with a Library card in good standing (not blocked due to unpaid fees or lost materials) can borrow a Kindle. Learn more about how to borrow a Kindle and see a list of titles. And Mead now has two Kindles loaded with books in four languages: Italian, Spanish, German, French. Do you enjoy reading in another language, or just a beginner? There's a variety of titles on these Kindles.
