READfest Is for You!
Why should kids have all the fun! READfest is a summer program at Mead Public Library just for adults, age 18 and up. Read or listen to any book in any format between June 1 and Aug. 2. For each title you complete, fill out a form at the second floor Reference Desk. You might even win a gift card, courtesy of the Friends of Mead Public Library. Stop in for report forms and more info!
What to Read Next?
Are you interested in what's new at Mead Library? Want to see an illustrated selection of new materials, complete with reviews and a link to our catalog? You've come to the right place. We now have a selection of new books and audiobooks listed in a new format. Take a look! Just click on the category that interests you in the dropdown menu under "Books and More" above. And start looking at some of our new books online! Selections will be updated monthly, so check back often.
Now You Can Be a Critic!
Do you enjoy reading what others think about books and movies and music? Then you may have noticed the option to see ratings and reviews contributed by others, right in Mead Library's EasiCat catalog. With this new program, called ChiliFresh, you can write a review and rate a book, DVD, CD, or audiobook, and read what others think as well. It's easy to set up an account to submit reviews, which are read by a moderator before being published. Reviews appear from library users all around the country, identified by city and an anonymous user name. Give it a try!
Want to Try a Kindle?
Mead Library is offering its adult card-holders a chance to get to know the Kindle, a wireless reading device from Amazon. Five Kindles have been purchased with funds from the William R. Werk Estate, designated for materials that assist the visually impaired. Kindles give users the ability to display type in various sizes and 16 shades of gray and many books offer a text-to-speech feature that “reads” a book out loud. However, any adult with a Library card in good standing (not blocked due to unpaid fees or lost materials) can borrow a Kindle through the second floor Adult Services department. Learn more about how to borrow a Kindle and see a list of titles.
