Summer VISTA Associate Site In Sheboygan (one or two openings)

Start date: June 17

Mead Public Library, Sheboygan

VISTA associates duties will include: perform outreach visits at city or school playground sites where the school district operates free activity programs during the summer. They also will visit locations where free summer lunch is provided to students. During these visits they will register children for the summer reading program and assist them in participation. They will also provide a literature based program and activity at each visit. VISTA associates will also assist with summer library program activities for children and teens in the library, including working with teen volunteers. Statistics will be kept to count the number of additional children participating in the summer library programs at outreach sites and the number of children participating in the literacy activities. The outcome will be that children previously left out of summer library program participation will enjoy the benefits of summer reading and maintain their literacy skills through the summer, making them better able to resume their studies in the fall.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: No later than May 15, 2012. Positions may be filled prior to May 15 so apply early!
