Position: Library Assistant I, Circulation/Technical Services
30 hours per week, $12.45 per hour
Starting Date: Position is open until filled. Applications received by March 15, 2010 to be given first consideration.
Responsibilities: Primary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Check out and check in library materials
Assist at self-service checkouts
Collect monies due for various charges
Register customers for library cards, maintain registration files, prepare library cards
Process requests/holds on library materials
Process overdue notices and bills
Respond to customer service inquiries
Respond to security alarms
Mend books and other materials
Qualifications: We are looking for someone who:
Has a commitment to customer service
Has general knowledge of libraries
Has general knowledge of computers
Can communicate library policies and practices to customers
Is a team player who works well in a close environment with co-workers
Can remain calm in busy and stressful situations
Knowledge of Hmong or Spanish would be a plus
Schedule/Hours: 30 hours per week, including at least one regular night each week, or more if needed by the department or if desired; every second Saturday (8 hours), occasionally more if needed by the department or if desired; every fifth or sixth Sunday (Oct-Apr), occasionally more if needed by the department or if desired.

Mead Public Library has a part-time opening for a cleaner on the Custodial Staff. Job responsibilities are primarily vacuuming but also include dusting, cleaning windows and restrooms. This is a 25-hour per week position working evening hours weekdays. Mead Public Library accepts applications for library page/bookshelver positions that may be available in Circulation Services. Requires good eyesight and physical ability. Applications available and accepted at the library's first floor Customer Service Desk during regular business hours. Application form also available online. Please attach a sheet indicating ALL hours you are available to work during the summer, and also during the school year.

Bookshelver—Circulation Services
Wage: $8.13 to $8.27 per hour (These positions are scheduled up to an average of 36 hours per two-week pay period. Generally, no direct customer service work.)
Start date:
To be determined after interviews. Interviews are conducted only if positions are available. Not all applicants will be interviewed. Bookshelver applications are accepted at all times, although there may not be any positions open when you apply. All applications are kept on file for six months.
Responsibilities:
-Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
-Reshelving adult and juvenile books, magazines, newspapers, and audio/visual materials;
-Sorting returned materials;
-Checking in returned materials;
-Putting carts of returned materials in order for reshelving;
-Shelf reading;
-Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
-Good eyesight and physical ability;
-Flexible/able to work a variety of hours;
-Works well with a group, as well as;
-Able to work independently, without supervision;
-Ability to understand the library shelving system;
-Speed and accuracy are important.
Schedules:
Work schedules vary, and include but are not limited to nights, weekends, and school holidays (especially Christmas and spring breaks). Please note ALL hours you are available to work.

LIBRARY POSITIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Performs duties with supervision
* Performs general day to day duties associated with respective department which include but are not limited to:
- Sort returned materials
- Check in returned materials
- Organize returned materials on book carts
- Re-shelve returned materials
- Shelf read collection
- Process new materials for circulation
* Reports Library safety and security matters to Library Management or Maintenance staff
* Handles materials and supplies according to MSDS guidelines
* Performs other related work as assigned by the Director, Manager, Service Area staff
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
* Basic knowledge of modern library services and procedures
* Ability to employ appropriate techniques to meet service needs
* Resilient to rapid changes in the library profession
* Ability to interact well with co-workers and public
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION

* Mathematical Ability: calculate basic arithmetic problems (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) without the use of a calculator
* Time Management: set priorities in order to meet assignment deadlines
